Programme aims and schedule
The kick-off meeting is our chance to examine the current state-of-play of VLMO research across the network and explore how we would like to proceed.
There are five key questions to address:
a) What observational data do we have?
b) What observational data are we already getting?
c) What theory are we doing?
which will inform:
d) What observational programmes would we like to do?
e) What theory do we want to do?
This is a chance to see where and in what we are currently providing information that is useful and/or complimentary and to see where we should avoid duplicating effort.
The agenda of the meeting will be:
8th January
0900-1200: A 5 minute introduction (no OHPs unless you *really* need them) by everybody explaining what they are doing and what they'd like to do as part of the network. (Tea break included)
1200-1400: Lunch.
1400-1700: Preparing a 'wish list' of what we would like to do, in particular what theorists would like the observers to do, and what observers would like the theorists to provide. Each node should nominate one or two people (e.g. one observer and one theorist) to describe their wants for 10 minutes (assuming 10 people = 3 hours including lots of time for discussion).
1700-1800: Working on the ideas in (2), a general discussion of possible network projects large and small. We will assign small working groups to each idea that meets with general approval (2 hours?).
9th January
0900-1030: Small group discussions in areas of mutual interest based on what has come up in the general discussion.
1030-1100: Tea break.
1100-1200: Small group discussions.
1200-1300: Lunch
1300-1500: A summary session to bring together the main ideas/themes and set goals.
It might be useful if anybody has any big ideas (major theoretical projects, large/long-term observational programmes etc.) if they could provide a quick summary of the idea to be circulated before the meeting so we can all think about it.
