Overview
CONSTELLATION is a European Commission Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) Marie Curie Research Training Network (EC MC RTN) started in December 2006 and runs for 4 years until the end of November 2010. The network co-ordinator began as Mark McCaughrean and is currently Matthew Bate, both at the University of Exeter.
The core aim of CONSTELLATION is to train Young Researchers in astronomy through work on the origin of stellar masses, as described here.
A total of 17 Young Researchers were hired in the first three years of the network: 8 Early Stage Researchers (ESR; PhD students) and 9 Experienced Researchers (ER; postdocs), with 3 short-term ESR positions available in Year 4. They will each be involved in one or more of the research projects carried out by CONSTELLATION and receive training through this research, as well as participation in a variety of schools, workshops, and conferences to be held by the network throughout Europe. Frequent visits and longer-term collaborative exchanges between the teams are a core aspect of the collaborative work.
The network is governed by a contract (number MRTN-CT-2006-035890) with the European Commission, the details of which can be found in the contract annexes.
